We had some fireworks last week a day before I started my 3rd and final trimester. I have been very lucky and have been feeling great. My body has still been letting me go on long walks and occasional jogs a few times a week. Last thursday I was going on my usual very slow 2.5 mile run when I tripped on a curb and took quite a header. I was very lucky to have been able to fall on my side and my left hand and leg took the brunt of the fall. However, I did call the Dr. since they said if you ever take a fall you need to let us know, not to mention I'm taking a blood thinner throughout the pregnancy. She immediately told me to go to Georgetown to be monitored.
Upon arrival they took such good care of me. We both were very nervous but I could feel baby Moore moving so I knew the little one was most likely just fine. Jessica was our nurse and she was so fantastic. She got me on the monitor and we could hear a perfect heart beat. According to the contraction monitor though, I was having a few contractions. This made me nervous but they assured me it was most likely just irritation from the fall and it would stop. Around now is when Dave started bringing attention to my swelling hand. They could tell that our little guy or gal looked great and they did a sonogram to see that my placenta was intact and amiotic fluid was OK. All looked good so they sent me to the ER for a short time to have my hand looked at.Never have I had a broken bone... till now of course. Everyone knew I was going to have to be monitored at L&D for 4 more hrs so they were so great getting me through and getting my hand splinted quickly. Then it was back on the fetal monitor till about 3am. I had a few more contractions but no signs of active labor and baby moore continued to look fantastic. Dave managed to nod off a few times in his little reclining chair and kept me from stressing out too much. Finally, a little after 3am we got the O.K. to go home.
So, needless to say, I've decided to just stick to walking for the rest of this pregnancy. I doubt I would have made it much longer anyway. Hopefully my break should heal very quickly within a few weeks. More than enough time to have both hands for our little one's birth and after. The most important thing is that our little one is still just perfect :). I have a couple of pictures below from the past few weeks!
